“overheating is one of the easiest ways to kill tech devices”
–9 to 5 Mac
We know that heat is bad for your electronics, as are power fluctuations and outages. Here’s your annual reminder not to leave your phone in the sun; if a storm is expected, shut down and/or unplug your electronics; and stay off wired telephones during lightning storms! (That’s not an urban legend).
(. . . and people, too, of course. If you’re sweltering/bemoaning climate change, consider volunteering with the well-regarded, nonpartisan Environmental Voter Project. Free, easy, no experience required.)
Interesting Prescription Options
Amazon has just entered the pharmacy business, giving some competition to the rock-bottom-prices at Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drugs (which I’ve been using happily for a few months; if you have questions, email me).
Why consider either one over your local pharmacy? Pro:
- Convenience: nothing beats home delivery, as we all know; and
- Price, because the difference can be stunning.
Con:
- Not all drugs are available
- MCCPD doesn’t take insurance (Amazon has the option)
- A bit of setup and it’s not same-day
Worth checking the prices for prescriptions you take regularly. And even if they don’t work for you, they’re helping to lower drug prices for everyone.
Flight Woes?
If your summer plans include flying, don’t forget about Google Flights. Flight canceled? Google Flights lets you search for alternatives across airlines, airports, and more, with the criteria you care about (departure time, airline, etc.). No app, just a website: flights.google.com.

Some Macs and iPads
are “retiring”
2015 and 2016 Macs and some iPads are now officially “vintage”: not repairable by Apple unless spare parts remain. Apple normally designates devices as vintage 5 years after they stop selling the model. Two years later, they become“obsolete” and are no longer eligible for software updates.
